Recognition to Umpires Coach
Umpires
coach Barry Sleep has been formally recognised by the
South Australian Football League, being awarded a Merit
Medal, which will be presented to him in Adelaide, prior
to the SANFL grand final, on October 6th.
"Willy"
as he is more commonly known, has been a real "life
like" figure around the Whyalla Football scene for many
years, firstly as a player, coach and now umpire. Sleep
started his playing career at Roopena, before moving to
North, where he played and coached the reserves for a
number of years.
After
retiring from coaching "Willy" took up umpiring and was
quickly recognised as a quality umpire, taking on the
coaching role about 18 years ago.
Well
done Willy, it is always nice to be recognised by your
peers for the work put in, trying to keep our great game
alive in Whyalla.
