Martians invading
Football!! - No - it is a photo of South Chairman Chris Hrnakis
who has been working for a change. Nice to see him following
OH&S rules!

I have experienced some cold days at the footy over the
year, but the last 6/7 weeks must take the cake. This week Thursday/Friday
nights were extremely cold and in fact to the point of being unpleasant. We,
unfortunately do not see this weather often and lets hope that it is clears now
in time for the Finals.

Tit Bit heard a
rumour this week that the Whyalla League may join with E.P. for the Country
Championships etc instead of S.G.L.
This makes commonsense when one considers:-
- Whyalla is part of E.P.
- E.P. is zoned to Port
Magpies
- Whyalla is zoned to Port
Magpies
- S.G.L. is zoned to North
Adelaide
- Under 15 & Under 17 teams
play in E.P. Carnivals
- Whyalla competes in
Mortlock Shield
Makes commonsense to me and I
will keep my ears open and report on progress

Heard that a
certain WFL Official is attempting to do something about his
fitness! Considered riding a push bike to the footy....when
asked what he would do if it rains or blows a gale...hesitated
for a moment and replied....will stick with the Statesman!!
So much for
that!!

On a lighter side heard that
one of our senior umpires took his son goat shooting last week and the lad
got bitten by a goat. Tit Bit will have to Sleep on that to work out
how this happened!!
Whyalla Football is
certainly changing since the age group change and the number of youngsters
now playing A grade is increasing. The pace of our competition has increased
markedly and generally the overall standard has improved. Westies have the
youngest side with the majority of their side under 21 and sitting on top of
the table. Tit Bit had a bit of a chuckle to himself when he witnessed
Westies having a drink after the game in their changerooms and there was far
more Coke than Beer being consumed. All sides have good youngsters coming
through and the league must take some credit for their commitment to the
Development Squad during the summer, where some 30-40 youngsters are given
specialist training and development. This work is under taken by Freddy
Stringer and his staff is certainly paying off for the standard of Whyalla
Football.
Noticed the
patrons of West and Central entertaining their guests at the game the other
weekend. Good to see some flair coming from the clubs and encouraging
spectators back to the game. Well done.
